Cristiano’s goal drought: “When Cris doesn’t score people always cause a commotion.”

Differences of opinion with Cristiano over Real’s squad:There’s never been anything in it. I think that there’s always been a great friendship between Cristiano and me. We are both players with a lot of character, with different opinions, but we’re pulling in the same direction. Sometimes we may have a bit of a disagreement about a decision…”

VAR at the Club World Cup: “I’m in favour of technology. But that said, we don’t want to lose the essence of football. Maybe here we take too long to make decisions through insecurity…”

Clásico on December 23: “Hopefully we’ll come back with another title because it’s good for the morale of the squad. It would serve us well going into the Clásico, there are three very important points to play for.”

Message to the fans: “I give them my word that we will keep battling until the very end and to the death.”
