Atlético are out of the Champions League but on the up
Valencia - Juventus live: Champions League 2018/19
Positive performance. Atlético came to the end of the Champions League road in London. And that was nothing strange, given what had already happened this campaign. But that is not to say that the work against Chelsea will not serve Atleti will in future. Diego Simeone's team played well and came close to securing three points against a rival on a different financial level.
Patience. Simeone set his team up in a 4-4-2 formation that granted Antoine Griezmann freedom to flutter around the pitch. Los Rojiblancos thought through the game well until Sául scored the opening goal, but after that, Chelsea came out on top.
Deterioration. Saúl's goal was the moment to take hold of the game and possession of the ball. Instead, Atlético took a step back. In the closing stages of the match, Chelsea had the visitors pegged back on the edge of their own box. Between the 55-75 minutes of the game, Atlético only had 33 percent possession.
Carelessness
Chelsea had two clear opportunities from a throw-in and a corner, as a result of individual lapses of concentration from Atlético players. In this case, Griezmann was no alert to the movement of Cesc Fabregas.
The gap
Eden Hazard and Pedro took advantage of the gap that opened up between Thomas and Gabi. The Ghana international was in no-man's land as Davide Zappacosta moved in to space on the wing.
