Update:

Remember in early 2025 when Christian McCaffrey shared images on social media of his workout as fans wondered whether he’d fully recovered from an injury-ravaged season?

Well, fast forward to July 2026 and the San Francisco 49ers star is back on Instagram, this time posting a compilation of workout photos and videos as he gears up for another NFL campaign.

The clips show McCaffrey putting himself through sprint drills, agility work, weight training and conditioning sessions, offering another glimpse into the relentless preparation that has made him one of the league’s premier offensive weapons. They also send a clear message: after everything he has been through over the last two years, he’s ready to go again.

How did McCaffrey bounce back?

It wasn’t long ago that there were serious questions about the 49ers star’s future. After helping San Francisco reach Super Bowl LVIII, McCaffrey endured a nightmare 2024 campaign.

A calf and Achilles injury suffered during training camp delayed his season debut until Week 10, and after returning for only four games, he suffered a posterior cruciate ligament injury in his right knee that landed him back on injured reserve and ended his season. The former NFL Offensive Player of the Year finished with just 348 scrimmage yards and no touchdowns as the 49ers missed the playoffs.

Any doubts about his ability to return quickly disappeared in 2025.

How did McCaffrey perform in 2025?

McCaffrey reminded everyone why he’s regarded as one of football’s most complete playmakers, rushing for 1,202 yards and 10 touchdowns while adding 102 receptions for 924 receiving yards and another seven scores. His 2,126 scrimmage yards ranked second in the NFL, and his remarkable turnaround earned him the league’s Comeback Player of the Year award.

He helped his team to the Divisional Playoffs but came up against the impressive Seahawks, who went on to lift the Vince Lombardi trophy.

Why are fans excited by these latest videos?

The resurgence makes McCaffrey’s latest social media update appear more than just another offseason workout post.

Rather than documenting a return from injury, the videos show a player looking to build on an outstanding comeback season as San Francisco aims to return to Super Bowl contention. Reports from the 49ers’ offseason program have also indicated McCaffrey has participated without restrictions, giving the team confidence he’ll once again be at the heart of Kyle Shanahan’s offense.
