Former player Julio Salinas took a potshot at Cristiano Ronaldo for lacking humility in an interview he gave after winning his fifth Ballon d'Or this week. Cristiano told France Football: "I'm the best player in history" - a statement which the ex-Athletic Club and Barcelona forward took umbrage to. "Being very good doesn't mean that you are the best, even if you have had the misfortune to coincide with the greatest, Messi. And to be honest, I don't think you even have a place on the podium with the best players in history because there are several players who come before you. Be content with the Ballon d'Ors you have won (including the ones you didn't deserve to win)", Salinas wrote on Twitter.

Salinas says Cristiano is no Messi

Salinas' tweet provoked a huge reaction with some users hitting back at him by reminding him of his own career as a striker. He retorted: "I know who I am and what I did as a player. I also know that my opinion isn't important, it's insignificant. But I can voice my thoughts with respect. Ronaldo is a brilliant player, a great goal scorer, decisive... etc. But Messi is all of that (he's also scored more goals) and he takes part in the game as a team player. He's a complete footballer - a No.9 and a No.10 rolled into one".
