Álvaro Arbeloa took to social media on Monday following the Champions League draw for the first knockout phase of the competition, which saw his ex-teammate Xabi Alonso pair Real Madrid with Paris Saint-Germain.
Arbeloa draws confidence from Alonso
The Spanish defender watched as compatriot Alonso - the special guest chosen to help with the highly anticiptaed Uefa draw - chose the French giants as Real Madrid's opponents for the round of 16 matches. Ahead of the occasion, Arbeloa said on Twitter:
"Madridistas can relax, we have Xabi Alonso in Geneva. We're in good hands."
Hoy sorteo de Champions. Los madridistas podemos estar tranquilos, tenemos a @XabiAlonso en Ginebra. Estamos en buenas manos. ;) #UCLDraw

Tough ties for Madrid, Barça and Sevilla
However, after Alonso had put his former club against one of the other favourites for the trophy, Arbeloa returned to Twitter:
"We all know that Xabi Alonso is much better with his feet than with his hands," completing his message with, "No fear. Go get 'em!"
Todos sabemos que @XabiAlonso es mucho mejor con los pies que con las manos. 🤣🤣🤣

No hay miedo. ¡A por ellos! PSG-RM
Arbeloa and Alonso played together for both Liverpool and Real Madrid. Alonso's also handed the other Spanish sides a tricky task with Sevilla playing Manchester United and Barcelona to face Chelsea.
