FIFA president Infantino to attend opening and final game

The head of FIFA will be at the tournament opener as Kuwait face Saudi Arabia and he will also be at the January 5th final match.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino will watch the opening game in the 2017 Gulf Cup on Nations as host nation Kuwait face Russia 2018 bound Saudi Arabia on December 22.

The 47-year-old will be back in the Gulf for the final game on January 5th which will be staged in the Kuwati capital as Qatar look to defend their 2014 title.

This will be the 23rd edition of the biennial competition and was originally scheduled to be hosted by Kuwait last year and then staged by Qatar this year. The ongoing diplomatic crisis with neighbouring states boycotting Qatar meant a change of host country with Kuwait stepping in.
