Griezmann Barcelona-bound, fear Manchester United - report

According to The Independent, the Premier League club understand that Barça are "very far ahead" in their pursuit of the Atlético Madrid star.

Antoine Griezmann's future remains up in the air - but, according to a report in the British media, looks increasingly likely to lie in Catalonia.

Last summer, the forward stayed at Atlético Madrid in the wake of the LaLiga club's failed appeal against their Fifa transfer ban, signing a new contract that includes a reduced, 100m-euro buy-out clause. For a player of Griezmann's quality, it's an asking price that is by no means unattractive to major suitors seeking to strengthen in attack, with Barcelona and Manchester United the chief candidates to take him from the Wanda Metropolitano at the end of the season.

Barcelona "very far ahead" of United in Griezmann pursuit

And of the two, says The Independent, it is Barça who are now in pole position to snap up the 26-year-old, the newspaper revealing on Wednesday that the Blaugrana are understood to be "very far ahead" of United, who had appeared set to secure the Frenchman's signature in the last summer window.

Indeed, the report by the journalist Miguel Delaney adds that club-mates of Griezmann in Madrid now expect the former Real Sociedad man to move to the Camp Nou rather than Old Trafford.

Griezmann, who joined Atleti in 2014, has rediscovered his form recently after enduring a difficult start to the campaign, with his below-par displays even seeing Los Colchoneros' fans jeer a player they are ever more resigned to losing.
