Mourinho to try and lure Mateo Kovacic to Manchester United
The Manchester United manager is looking at various options in the January markey and is pondering a €30m offer for the Real Madrid midfielder.
Manchester United boss José Mourinho is likely to be active in the winter transfer market as he attempts to chase down Manchester City and remain in contention in Europe and the Portuguese is keen on Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic.
The Old Trafford board are prepared to sanction a 30-million-euro offer for the Croatia international, who has never managed to nail down a first-team place at the Bernabéu.
Kovacic finding starts hard to come by at Real Madrid
Kovacic, 23, joined Real Madrid in 2015 from Inter Milan for a fee of 28 million euros and has a contract at the Bernabéu until 2021. Nevertheless, he has been constantly linked with a move back to Serie A with the Premier League until now not expressing much interest in the midfielder.
Zinedine Zidane rates Kovacic highly but the amount of competition for places in midfield and a knee injury have led to scarce opportunities for the Croatia international, who may view a more regular role at Old Trafford in a positive light in a World Cup year.
