Paco Jémez has been named new coach at struggling Las Palmas. The Canary Islands-based club announced Jémez's appointment after a failed attempt to bring in Jorge Almirón who, according to UEFA rules, lacks sufficient experience to coach in top flight football

Jémez's second stint at Las Palmas

Jémez returns to the job he held from April 2010 until February 2011 when Las Palmas were in the Second Division. He has brought his own coaching team: Juan Luna Eslava (assistant coach), Julio Luis Muñoz Saldaña (fitness trainer) and Jorge Ramírez Fernández (goalkeeping coach). Eslava accompanied Jémez during his first spell at Las Palmas

The 47-year-old takes the post following a brief stint in charge at Mexican side Cruz Azul. He guided the Cementeros the play-offs of the Torneo Apertura for the first time in three years but the team were eliminated by Club América in the quarter finals. That defeat prompted him to rescind his contract with Cruz Azul. Jémez returns to Las Palmas with the team bottom of the table on 11 points and four points from safety.
