Kepa passes medical ahead of Real Madrid transfer
AS has been able to confirm that the Athletic keeper has been in Madrid to put the finishing touches to a six-year-del and could be unveiled next week.
Real Madrid’s intention towards Kepa Arrizabalaga has always been based on the idea of meeting the Athletic keeper’s minimum release clause of 20 million euros in the first week of January to facilitate a deal as quickly as possible. That has not changed despite the 23-year-old’s recent injury, which is expected to keep him out for most of January, but it has altered the timelines a little.
Kepa passes medical
OkDiario reported on Thursday that Kepa had been in Madrid to undergo a medical during the afternoon and AS has been able to confirm this. Furthermore, this paper has been told that the medical tests all returned satisfactory results from Madrid’s club doctors.
With the medical out of the way, all parties (the player’s representatives and Real Madrid) are applying the fine print to a six-year Bernabéu contract for the Spain keeper.
Real to deposit Spain keeper's release clause
The next step is for Madrid to deposit the 20 million euros laid out in Kepa’s Athletic contract to trigger his release clause. This is expected to take place within the next few days but the Spanish bank holiday weekend for the Reyes Magos celebrations may push an official announcement back a few days.
However, Real remain confident that if everything goes according to plan and there are no unforeseen obstacles Kepa will be unveiled before the return leg of the Copa del Rey last 16 tie against Numancia next Wednesday.
