Diego Costa: Atlético appeal against red card thrown out
The Liga disciplinary committee saw little reason to rescond the Spain striker's second yellow against Getafe but did remove Antoine Griezmann's caution.
The Spanish Football Federation’s disciplinary committee has rejected Atlético Madrid’s appeal against the second yellow card shown to Diego Costa for jumping into the crowd during the 2-0 win over Getafe last weekend, which saw the Spain striker sent off on his second Liga debut.
Costa suspension upheld, Griezmann yellow cancelled
As such, Costa will be suspended for the game against Eibar on Saturday. However, the committee did rescind a caution handed out to Antoine Griezmann during the same match for a tackle on Sergio Mora after Atlético provided video evidence that the France international had made contact with the ball before flooring the Getafe player.
As regards Costa, the committee found that the striker had contravened Article 12 of the regulations: “The named player approached the spectators and, furthermore, embraced several fans, which the referee determined could produce a security problem, which is an infraction of the rules.”
