Kwara United: Nigerian football club’s bus involved in road crash

No lives were lost in the incident involving Kwara United’s team bus, with three members of the contingent suffered varying injuries.

Players and officials of Nigerian top-flight club Kwara United F.C. were involved in a road accident on Wednesday morning.

The accident, at the Ibadan end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, occurred as the team was returning to Kwara from their participation in the Nigeria National Super Four competition in Lagos, which finished on Tuesday.

According to a statement made by the Kwara, no lives were lost in the accident, but a player and two club officials were injured.

Also known as the Harmony Boys, Kwara United are returning to Nigeria’s elite division after two seasons in the second tier.

The Harmony Boys are scheduled to host Niger Tornadoes on Sunday; however, the match is now in doubt.

Road crash

The manager of Kwara United, Jimoh Oke, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the accident occurred as the driver attempted to avoid a collision with another car.

"The driver was avoiding hitting the car, and lost control. A player and two officials were injured; they are responding to treatment.

“We thank God that no life was lost to the incident; we will proceed to Ilorin today.”
