The 35 year-old midfielder announced the move via social media with the message: "I don't believe in walls, I want to go to Mexico".

North American soccer legend Landon Donovan who played for the USA side at the 2002,2006 and 2010 World Cups has confirmed a return to top flight action with a move to Liga MX side León.

The player last played for MLS side LA Galaxy but then announced his plan to hang up the boots in 2016 but has confirmed a move to play with Mexican outfit club Leon.

Donovan has played in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Múnich and had a spell in the English Premier League with Everton along with spells for MLS sides San Jose Earthquakes and Los Angeles Galaxy.

"I knew it and always wanted to see you in the green shirt. Welcome to a #LaFiera! You are now a @clubleonfc player", replied the club president Jesús Martinez on his Twitter account.
