Fabián: Real Madrid, Barcelona eyeing Real Betis midfielder
Betis are working to tie the 21-year-old starlet down to a new contract with a release clause higher than his current 15m-euro figure.
Real Madrid and Barcelona are both interested in Real Betis midfielder Fabián Ruiz, Diario AS understands.
This leaves the LaLiga giants on a potential collision course over another Betis youngster, having already gone head-to-head for the services of Dani Ceballos, who this summer chose the Bernabéu over the Camp Nou.
Betis working to up Fabián's 15m-euro release clause
Betis youth product Fabián has been a revelation in Los Verdiblancos' midfield this season - making 15 LaLiga appearances so far in 2017/18 for Quique Setién's seventh-placed side - with his meteoric rise leading the Andalusians to open contract talks with the 21-year-old, whose current deal expires in 2020.
The club's chief priority is to increase Fabián's 15-million-euro release clause, which now appears to represent a major bargain. However, negotiations over a new buy-out fee are not believed to be progressing smoothly, with Betis keen to place a 40m-euro price tag on the Spaniard's head, while the player's camp are seeking the lower figure of around 25m to 30m.
None of the above amounts would prove prohibitive for either Barça or Real, who in July paid Betis more than the 15m-euro fee set out in Ceballos' contract.
Spurs, Roma also interested in Fabián
There has also been interest in Fabián from European clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur and Roma this January, but he is seemingly focused on remaining at Betis for the time being. "My aim is to stay here for as long as possible, and then what happens, happens," the player told an interview with the Spanish radio station Cadena SER on Tuesday.
