Mascherano to bid farewell to Barça at event on Wednesday
The player was hoping to be able to bid farewell to the Camp Nou faithful on the pitch but his ongoing injury hampers him from doing so.
The curtain is set to come down on Javier Mascherano's career as a FC Barcelona player and a special event has been organised by the Catalan club in order for the Argentine defender to bid farewell to the club he joined in 2010.
The Auditori 1899 will host the event on Wednesday (24/01) which will be attended by members of the media, the Barcelona first team squad, backroom staff and representatives from the Barça board of directors as the player embarks on the next chapter of his footballing adventure moving to Chinese Super League side Hebei Fortune (for a fee close to 10 million euro). The Catalan club are expected to announce the move in a official capacity today or tomorrow with the currently injured player having to settle for a send-off in a media hall rather than on the pitch which was his initial intention.
Mascherano will also surrender his No. 14 shirt as he moves to China to link-up with coach Pellegrini at Hebei Fortune and his squad number set to be inherited by Philippe Coutinho.
