Seedorf, the third choice, set to be new Deportivo manager
The favoured choice was Lasarte, but he declined. Diego Alonso had an agreement, but there was a problem with his licence. The Dutchman will take the helm.
The offices of Deportivo have been a hotbed of activity this weekend following the dismissal of manager Cristóbal Parralo. Finally Clarence Seedorf has been appointed as his successor.
First choice refused
The club first targeted Martin Lasarte, the big favorite for the blue and whites. But despite being without a team, the former captain of the club rejected the offer because he could not clearly see the team's vision or the project that was put on the table.
Second choice issues
Faced with this rather serious dilemma, 'plan B' was another Uruguayan: Diego Alonso. The former Valencia and Atlético Madrid player, currently managing Pachuca, reached a complete agreement with Depor and the Mexican club had already accepted that he was moving on. However, a minor problem with his license, which would prevent him from taking over from the bench for about three weeks, resulted in Tino Fernández discard him too.
Third choice Seedorf appointed
Given this situation, and the desire to have a coach in place for Tuesday, the Galician club went in a different direction: appointing Clarence Seedorf. The ex-Real Madrid midfielder will take charge of Deportivo with the single objective of keeping them in the top flight. Seedorf, 41 years old, has management experience with AC Milan (22 games) and in the Chinese Super League with Shenzhen (14).
