Simeone: "We have to improve; it’s easier when you're winning"
"Griezmann is in a good run of form, he was fantastic today, everywhere on the pitch, up front, back in defence, shooting, cutting out passes…”
Diego Simeone spoke to the press after his Atlético Madrid side beat Málaga 1-0 at La Rosaleda courtesy of Antoine Griezmann’s strike in the first minute of the game.
Does the score compensate for a poor game?
“It was an important win. We scored very quickly but I don’t know of that’s a good thing or a bad thing. Málaga improved a lot as the game went on, they found their way into the game and I’m happy with the victory. We needed it, and we won at a ground where every time it’s harder for us to do. We have to improve, but when we’re winning it’s easier to do that.”
“We don’t look at our rivals, we carry on trying to improve and to better our numbers from last year, knowing that we have to play better.”
Simeone: "I'm not a fortune teller"
Griezmann:
“It’s a sign of what he feels for the team and what he transmits. He’s in a good run of form, he was fantastic today, everywhere on the pitch, up front, back in defence, shooting, cutting out passes…”
1-0 is becoming is a regular score line. Do you think your players relax when they score?
“It’s difficult to say, I can’t read their thoughts. We scored early and sometimes that’s not a good thing, the opposition has a lot of time to recover and nothing to lose. Málaga went for it and when you’re 1-0 up you can relax a bit, that’s true, but it also takes you out of the game you expected. Luckily we won.”
Do you think Málaga will stay up?
“I’m not a fortune teller but I watched Málaga’s last four games and they’re working well. They were never out of the game against us and that’s very important.”
