Benzema at the limit and needs a performance against PSG
The Real Madrid number nine has had a very poor season and has a chance against PSG to fix that or the Bernabeu will be calling for a permanent change at the position.
Karim Benzema faces every new game with Real Madrid like a trial with lots of people suggesting remedies are needed. The Santiago Bernabéu has already withdrawn their support for the player and on a number of occasions he has been whistled by the fans at the stadium. His performances have not been good enough for Real Madrid strikers and this Wednesday, against PSG, the fans will submit him to their latest exam.
The French striker is going through one of his worst moments at the club. He has just scored six times and is the fifth highest scorer on the team, equal with Lucas Vázquez, a sub who plays 15 minutes in every game. His numbers are deemed too poor to carry the Real Madrid number nine on the back given their history of excellent goalscorer. Some of the players who have scored more than him include Gareth Bale, who has been injured for most of the year along with Marco Asensio, who also plays as a sub more than he starts.
Real Madrid lacking goals off the bench and from their starting striker
Real Madrid can not understand how, despite these poor numbers and performances, Zidane continues to play the 29-year-old in almost every game with Benzema showing his upset when being subbed. The side miss the goals of Morata and Mariano, who helped the team massively off the bench and who packed their bags last summer. This season, Mayoral is the replacement, but neither are experiencing very good chances. Despite needing less time to score, Benzema needs 310 minutes per goal and the Spanish striker needs just 154.8 minutes.
The French manager has shown his support on various occasions too, going so far as to suggest that Benzema was one of "the best". His teammates have not been shy of supporting him either when pushed as the jeers from the Bernabeu grew louder. Cristiano did not approve of the whistles and neither did Ramos, who asked that the fans "leave the whistle aside". He doesn't just lack the goal but he is also failing to assist. Some players and managers consider these things to be just as important as goals but the striker has registered just five.
If Zidane decides to play his compatriot against PSG, he will have to show his very best side because of the importance of the clash. Right now, he is the weakest link in the bbC, with the least goals to support the team and Real Madrid have their last chance to fix a poor season against the most lethal strikeforce in Europe: Mbappé, Cavani and Neymar. Another poor performance and the fans will be looking for a more permanent change and will be crying out for a new striker.
