Villarreal defender Rúben Semedo has been arrested by the Civil Guard on charges of aggravated burglary and holding a person against his will, according to a report in Valencia local daily Las Provincias.

It is the second time the Portugal under-21 international has been arrested after the 23-year-old was detained in January for allegedly threatening a night club employee with a firearm. If found guilty of that charge, the player could face a jail sentence of two years.

On this occasion Semedo stands accused of unlawful detention and firearms offences after he and two other men tied up the complainant in the player's house in the Torrenconí de Betera neighbourhood in Valencia and took the keys to his apartment. Two men then allegedly entered the property near the city's Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias in the centre of Valencia to steal money and "other things that could implicate the footballer," according to Las Provincias.

According to Las Provincias, he identified Semedo and his cousin as two his alleged aggressors, reporting that they had threatened him with pistols and fired shots to intimidate him

Semedo was arrested on Tuesday morning and police carried out a search of his home.

Villarreal have yet to make a stamement on the case. Semedo joined the club from Sporting Lisbon last summer for a fee of 12.6 million euros but has not played since October due to a muscle injury.
