Benfica tried to return Douglas, Barça said no
According to Uol, the Portuguese club tried to send the Brazilian back to Barcelona during the winter transfer window.
Nobody wants Douglas...
The Barcelona right back, on loan to Benfica until the end of January, was on the point of changing hands again, according to Brazilian website Uol.
Or rather that was Benfica's plan, with the Portuguese club attempting to return the player to Barcelona in the winter transfer window, only to be met with a resounding 'No!' from Barça bosses, who rejected outright any chance of the player appearing back at the Camp Nou.
Douglas has started just one game
Douglas has only played in six competitive Benfica matches, and made his league debut on 20 January in a win over Chaves. That's his only league game so far. The other five were in the Cup and League Cup, plus the Champions League, where Benfica have already been knocked out.
Douglas came to Barcelona in 2014-15 for four million euros (plus 1.5 in add-ons), with the plan to be Dani Alves' replacement. And it's a signing that will always be remembered for the fact that Barcelona that summer could have spent those four million euros on Marco Asensio. But instead the striker stayed at Mallorca and ended up at Real Madrid, where he's become a star.
Douglas, on the other hand, struggled to break into the first team and ended up being sent on loan to Sporting (despite not wanting to), where he picked up a bizarre injury while asleep on the team bus, and then on another loan to Benfica, where they've now decided they don't want him.
