Cristiano: "I still have strength to fight for the Ballon d'Or"
In an interview for Brazilian media, the Real Madrid player says that he has realized his dreams but wants to continue battling to win the Ballon d'Or for a sixth or seventh time.
Cristiano Ronaldo looked back over his career in an interview with Brazilian media Desimpedidos and says he is satisfied with everything he has achieved in the game although he wouldn't mind returning to win the Ballon d'Or again. As for this summer's World Cup finals, he played down Portugal's chances and placed Spain among the big favourites to win the trophy.
Five-time Ballon d'Or winner
Ballon d'Or: "I could never have dreamed of winning the Ballon d'Or five times. But if my career was to end now, I would be very happy with how it all turned out. If I could win the Ballon d'Or again - twice, or three times... I would be absolutely delighted. But even if I don't win it again, I've already won it five times... I still have hope and strength to battle to win it again. It will depend on the trophies we win this year".
2018 World Cup Russia: "We are not among the favourites. We have to be honest about our chances. There are many teams with bigger reputations - Brazil, Spain, Germany, Argentina... But anything is possible in football. We'll be trying to make it through the group stage. We have to take it one step at a time. We'll try and get through the first stage and then take it from there - our objective is to get through the first round".
Have you any dreams left to realize? "To be honest with you, no, I don't think so. I have achieved everything I have ever dreamt about".
European football has no equal
The 2017 Club World Cup final: "A final is always 50-50... but I did feel a difference because the best football in the world is played in Europe. Let's not be hypocritical about it and lie by saying the best football is played in China, Mexico, Brazil... No. The best football is played here in Europe, where the best teams in the world are. And the competitiveness in Europe is good because you are up against the best teams in the world. In Brazil, technical ability is exceptionally high; technically, Brazilian players are very good. But they are not used to playing against teams of the calibre of Barcelona, Real Madrid... We knew that, if we played to our level against Grêmio, we'd beat them".
