Gerard Moreno goal incorrectly disallowed for offside
The forward found the net in the 29th minute of the LaLiga match between Espanyol and Real Madrid, only for the linesman to raise his flag.
There was refereeing controversy in the air at the RCDE Stadium. Espanyol striker Gerard Moreno scored a legitimate goal in the 29th minute of Espanyol vs Real Madrid, only for the linesman to raise his flag and incorrectly disallow the goal for offside.
VAR could not have done anything
Colombian midfielder Carlos 'The Rock' Sánchez started the move with a low shot from outside the box. The ball hit Moreno, who adjusted and placed it beyond Keylor Navas in to the bottom corner.
The linesman swiftly flagged for offside, but replays revealed that Marcos Llorente was playing Moreno onside.
"It's not offside," said Diario AS resident referee Iturralde González, "VAR wouldn't have been able to do anything in this case because the referee had already blown his whistle."
