PSG 1-2 REAL MADRID

Draxler: "We deserved to go out; we spent 400M€ improving the team..."

The German midfielder wasn't happy about being on the bench and was critical of PSG's project and also coach Unai Emery's tactics during both legs of the tie.

With Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League aspirations in tatters, Nasser Al-Khelaifi's sporting project has been fiercely criticized from all sides - including from within the dressing room. Julian Draxler, who was brought on with just 14 minutes remaining in last night's return leg against Real Madrid with the score at 1-1, pulled no punches with his opinions on where the club is going wrong. “Real Madrid were totally relaxed - they weren't nervous at all. We played the ball about but you are not going to win doing that. You have to put Madrid under pressure when you are losing 1-3. You can't just pass the ball about and hope a goal falls from the sky. We deserved to be knocked out. Last summer we spent 400 million euros to bring changes and in the end we can't even get past the first knockout round”, he told German television.

No sense of urgency to PSG's game against Madrid

Draxler wasn't impressed by his entrance to the game which was delayed by five minutes after Cavani pulled one back for PSG. The midfielder was supposed to come on on 71 minutes but ended up replacing Di María on 76 minutes and couldn't understand Unai Emery's lack of urgency. “He didn't seem overly worried. I don't know what happened, I was surprised and angry. Making it 1-1 did change anything for us. I felt we should have kept pressing Madrid and attacking them”.
