Real Madrid's future is now with Lucas, Asensio, Carvajal et al

The elimination of PSG at the hands of Real Madrid was further proof that Zinedine Zidane's side are a different team in the Champions League. The manager proved he is willing to play the younger stars in the bigger games and has kept them all on their toes in recent weeks: Asensio, Lucas, Kovacic, Varane, Casemiro, Carvajal and Isco are all under 26 and all excelled against PSG. The future for Real Madrid appears to be now.

Lucas Vazquez: A starter in Paris and showed once more that he has the fight and quality to remain a starter at Real Madrid. The academy player was excellent at the Parc des Princes, with good delivery into the box, solid defensively and an assist for Cristiano. He has responded to the confidence put in him by Zidane.

Marco Asensio: He continues to show his quality just like in his cameo in the first leg. That night, he had two assists in limited game-time and got the nod ahead of Isco and Bale on Tuesday night in Paris. In the second leg, he proved a constant headache for Dani Alves. He gave Vazquez the ball for the opening goal and hit the woodwork too.

Mateo Kovacic: The Croatian was handed the task of replacing Kroos and Modric in the middle and he did not disappoint. Fought with Verratti, Motta and Rabiot all night and broke well with the ball at his feet and proved a capable replacement for the German-Croatian axis in Real Madrid's midfield.

Raphael Varane: Not in the so-called B unit but his injuries cast doubts on his ability to partner Sergio Ramos consistently. He was impeccable in Paris and showed of his strength in the air and speed in space. If his injuries remain at bay, Real Madrid have a central defender for a long while yet.

Casemiro: Real Madrid's midfield marshal. A nightmare for PSG as he recovered 11 balls, completed 56 of 57 passes with an 98% accuracy only committed one foul and suffered five. He cleared three balls, blocked another two and finished the game with a fortunate goal. Still yet to lose a knock-out tie with Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Dani Carvajal: Returned to the side after missing the first leg through suspension and had to keep an eye on Mbappe and Di Maria in either half. His work and crossing made the right side of Real Madrid's team a stronghold and a hub of creativity.

Two more players, Isco and Nacho, didn't start and Isco saw the last 10 minutes but their performances in the first leg were key to Real Madrid's grip on the tie. Nacho is a guarantee every time he is called upon and Isco is the 11th most used player by Zidane this year.
