Souaré back in Senegal squad after dreadful car accident
A year and a half after suffering a life-threatening car crash, Pape Souaré has been handed a chance to go to this year’s World Cup.
A year and a half after suffering a life-threatening car crash, Crystal Palace left-back Pape N'Diaye Souaré was on Wednesday named in Senegal’s squad for warm-up friendlies ahead of the upcoming Fifa World Cup in Russia.
The 27-year-old defender was included in the 30-man list for Senegal’s matches against Uzbekistan and Bosnia on 23 and 27 March, respectively.
Full recovery
Back in September 2016, the Crystal Palace player was involved in a dreadful traffic accident in London, sustaining serious thighbone and jaw injuries.
But having made a full recovery, Souaré has now been given a chance to prove his fitness and win a spot in Senegal's squad for the World Cup, their first appearance at the finals since 2002.
The Teranga Lions' coach, Aliou Cissé, has also recalled Stoke City's Mame Biram Diouf, Dijon's Papy Djilobodji and Cardiff City's Armand Traoré.
