The best players in the five big leagues in Europe
The CIES Football Observatory applied their algorithm to the players in Europe's big leagues to say who has been the best over the past three months.
The CIES Football Observatory has published their latest analysis of the top players in Europe's five big leagues in each of the main positions. Their secret formula looks at six factors when evaluating the players' performances: rigour, recovery, distribution, take on, chance creation and shooting. The results obtained by their team in the games in question were also factored in.
The best player in every position
Looking only at players who have played at least 45 minutes in each of a minimum of eight games CIES divide the players across the following positions: goalkeepers, centre-backs, full-backs, defensive midfielders, box-to-box midfielders, wingers and forwards.
The highest ranked player over the last three months is winger (for the purposes of this ranking) Leo Messi, who notched a 93.7 rating. Toni Kroos was second, on 92.8, and Cristiano Ronaldo's resurgence was was recognised as he hit third place with 90.8.
Out of the total of 70 players on the list, 10 are Barcelona players, four ply their trade with Real Madrid, two are at Atlético Madrid and one is with Valencia (Guedes).
