REAL MADRID

The Roma keeper is Real Madrid's third option to reinforce the squad for next season. He will be Brazil's first choice at the World Cup but won't be cheap...

Real Madrid have spent a long time scouring the markets for a goalkeeper and top of their wish list are Thiabut Courtois and David de Gea.

The Chelsea keeper has hinted that he would be open to return to the Spanish capital to be closer to his family. But a few days ago he stated that he was staying put at Stamford Bridge, effectively closing the door on joining Zinedine Zidane's team.

The other, long-term objective is David de Gea. The Manchester United No.1 has been priority target since way before the infamous fax incident on deadline day in 2015. But the main stumbling block is that José Mourinho isn't prepared to let him leave. De Gea has come on leaps and bounds and made a name for himself in the Premier League, where he has been considered the best player in his position over the past few seasons. United meanwhile, wouldn't be willing to listen to offers under 70 million euros.

Rhythmically admired

That's why Madrid have turned their attentions to Roma's Alisson Becker, according to recent reports in Italian media. He will guard the net for Brazil at this summer's World Cup finals to conclude what has turned out to be another impressive season for him. But replacing Keylor Navas with Alisson would not be an economic operation by any means - Roma feel he has a market value which is more or less the same as Courtois and De GeaCorriere dello Sport claim that Roma would be looking at a fee of around 60 million euros although the Brazilian would be more likely to consider moving on to join a more competitive club.

Alisson's current contract is due to expire  in June 2021 but Roma are planning to offer him an extension with improved terms. Roma chairman James Pallotta said recently that the keeper's contractual arrangement is bulletproof and that he has been a huge fan of his since he arrived at the club although Alisson has admitted that he is flattered by Real Madrid's interest in him.

Roma keen on Kovacic

At the same time, Roma are interested in signing Mateo Kovacic. They know that the midfielder is considered a second string player at Real Madrid but would be a first choice at Roma as he knows how Serie A functions and the kind of football which is played in the Italian top flight. But even if Roma were resigned to let Alisson leave, they are adamant that Kovacic would not form part of any deal.
