Buffon: "We were over-confident going into the Cardiff final"
The Juventus goalkeeper maintains his side won't repeat the errors committed in the 2017/18 final claiming that the Serie A side were over-confident.
Juventus and Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon analysed the Juve-Real Madrid Champions League quarter final first leg.
The home win over Milan is the perfect way to go into Tuesday's game?
Certainly, it was good to overcome the obstacle that the game against Milan posed and the win gives us an added boost as Gattuso's side are one of the form teams in Serie A at present.
How much did it hurt being 16 minutes away from the Juve Serie A record for not conceding a goal?
It doesn't bother me in the slightest. I'd have preferred to concede against SPAL and have won that particular game as was the case on Saturday with the Bonucci goal.
Dybala said that that June night in Cardiff is something of a nightmare for him. How doe the team feel facing Real Madrid again?
It presents something of a challenge as we're up against the best team in the world who have won the past two Champions League finals which is in itself a unique feat. Our objective is to be alive in the tie in the last minute of the second leg.
What has changed in the 300 days or so since that night in Cardiff?
Well I was 39 then and now I'm 40 which is a major psychological difference (laughs). I'd say we went into the Cardiff game over-confident and that was mistake number one. At the same time on the night Madrid were the better side and I hope a better performance from Juve on this occasion.
Have you watched the game again?
I gave up watching it after the first two goals and felt that luck was just not on our side either that night with their first two goals getting deflections. but it are those details that can swing a game of football.
Zidane has doubts relating to his attacking line-up...
When a keeper and his back-line face Real Madrid any forward line is formidable but the one player I'm sure will start is Cristiano and I'm sure he'll do his best to make life as complicated for me as possible.
Could the tie being decided over two legs be to your advantage?
Without a doubt. We overcame Barça in 180´but fell against Madrid in 90’..
Results over the years would suggest Juve are almost unbeatable over a two-legged tie?
I'm not sure about being unbeatable but we certainly can make life difficult for any opponent and this is despite not being the favourite for this tie. I'd say things are 50/50 going into the quarter final and if we perform then we can overcome any side. At the same time it has to be said that we're facing some of the finest players on the planet too...
