Iker Casillas reaches 1,000-game milestone
The majority of the games, more than 700, were played in a Real Madrid shirt with the remainder made up from Spain's national team and his current club Porto.
Monday 2 April 2018 was not just another league game for Iker Casillas as Porto took to the field against Belenenses. This was the game where the Spanish goalkeeping legend reached the milestone of 1,000 in his professional career.
San Iker 1,000: Real Madrid, Spain, Porto
The trip to Belenenses for the evening game on matchday 27 of the Liga NOS saw Casillas lead out the team for his one thousandth appearance. Most of this tally was, of course, achieved playing for Real Madrid, the 'club of his life', 725 to be precise. That figure was just 16 shy of Raúl's record, but was sufficient to win 18 Spanish titles, 10 of them as captain.
For the Spanish national team, with whom the iconic number one lifted a World Cup and two European Championships, Iker played 167 internationals, more than anyone else to date. His old Madrid teammate Sergio Ramos is still on course to overake him, currently on 151.
The remainder of the games (107) have been defending the goal of the Portuguese side who Casillas joined in the summer of 2015.
