Ivory Coast denies appointing Frank de Boer as Elephant’s coach

A popular Ivorian news website reported on Sunday that De Boer had been appointed as the new Elephants’ coach.

Update:
Ivory Coast denies appointing Frank de Boer as Elephant’s coach

The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) denied on Monday that it had appointed Dutchman Frank de Boer to occupy the vacant coaching position of Ivory Coast.

Fake reports

On Sunday, a popular local news site, Linfodrome, reported that the FIF had appointed the former Barcelona defender as the successor to Marc Wilmots, who was released last November after failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup finals.

However, according to a statement published by the FIF on Monday, information regarding the appointment of the De Boer is unfounded.

“It is no secret that FIF is trying to find a brand-new Elephants coach to switch Marc Wilmots, released on November 15, 2107.

“The Federation is working on this and will provide the name of the new breeder in due course,” stated FIF vice-president Sory Diabaté.

Kamara in charge

Interim manager Ibrahim Kamara led the Elephants in last month’s fixtures against Togo (2-2 draw) and Moldova (2-1 win) in France.

Ivory Coast’s next official match will come on September 7, 8 or 9 against Rwanda as part of the second game of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
