Atlético Madrid began preparations for the Madrid derby on Sunday after Thursday night's victory over Sporting Club de Portugal in the Europa League. The session was divided between the game's starters and those who didn't play significant minutes. Savic, Godín, Lucas, Correa, Gabi, Saúl and Griezmann all did recovery work wile Juanfran, Koke and Diego Costa worked out on stationary bikes.
Gimenez and Vrsaljko don't train ahead of derby
Werner, Oblak, Thomas, Vitolo, Torres and Gameiro all trained on another field with several inclusions from the team's youth teams. Those who did not train were Sime Vrsaljko and Jose Gimenez.
The Uruguayan will be out for the derby after the injury he suffered against Wales in the China Cup and his recovery will take more time. The club's medical team want to take their time with the injury as it affected the joint of the ankle.
Vrsaljko is not ruled out to enter Simeone's squad list, which will be named on Saturday. He is currently struggling with muscular discomfort and while scans do now show any injury, he is undergoing rehab treatment until his symptoms subside.
