Xabi Prieto: Real Sociedad legend to retire at end of season
Real Sociedad's long-serving captain is to hang up his boots after over 14 years in the LaLiga club's first team, it has been announced.
Real Sociedad captain Xabi Prieto is to retire at the end of the season after over 14 years in the Basques' first team, the LaLiga club have announced.
The La Real youth product, 34, has spent his entire career at Anoeta, racking up 530 games for the Txuri-Urdin since making his debut back in October 2003.
Club's fifth-highest appearance maker
Indeed, the midfielder is fifth on the San Sebastián club's all-time list of appearance makers, behind Alberto Górriz (599), Juan Antonio Larrañaga (589), Jesús María Zamora (588) and Luis Miguel Arconada (551).
La Real laud Prieto's "class on and off the field"
"His class on and off the field will remain forever etched in the memory of the Real Sociedad family," the club said in a statement on Tuesday. "Thank you, Xabi!"
La Real also revealed that Prieto will hold a press conference on Wednesday.
