Oblak equals Courtois' 154 games with 13 more clean sheets

The Atlético keeper has conceded 33 fewer times than Thibaut Courtois over the same number of games in Madrid and is on course for a third consecutive Zamora trophy.

Jan Oblak added to his collection of clean sheets for Atlético Madrid in last weekend’s 3-0 victory over Levante, which was the Slovenia international’s 154th game for the club, equaling the number of appearances his predecessor, Thibaut Courtois, made for the Rojiblancos.

Courtois left Atlético after three years on loan from Chelsea to return to his parent club and left his mark at the Calderón, winning the Zamora Trophy for the fewest goals conceded in a Liga season twice and lifting the Liga, Copa del Rey and Europa League during his spell at the club.

Oblak, though, has taken it to a new level at Atlético and is on course for a third consecutive Zamora after the weekend’s results, which left his nearest challenger, Barça keeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, two goals adrift on 17 conceded to Oblak’s 15.

And while Courtois was a firm fan favourite at the Calderón, Oblak has taken his mantle and quietly set about smashing the Belgium keeper’s statistics at the club.

After 154 games, Courtois had conceded 125 times, while Oblak has let just 92 past him over the same period, an average of 0.57 goals per game and 33 fewer in total than the Chelsea keeper. The Slovenian has kept 89 clean sheets over that period, compared to 76 for Courtois.

In total, Oblak has played 111 games in LaLiga (60 conceded), 34 in the Champions League (23 conceded), 6 Copa del Rey fixtures (8 conceded) and three in the Europa League (1 conceded).

Courtois played the same number of Liga games, conceding 94 times, with figures of nine conceded in the Europa League (15 games), 10 in the Copa del Rey (13 games), 10 in the Champions League (12 games) two Spanish Super Cup appearances with a single goal conceded and one in one in the European Super Cup, Atlético's 4-1 victory in 2012 against his current employers.
