Joaquín: "Dani Ceballos would be great for us at Betis"

MIGUEL MORENATTI

DIARIO AS

The Real Betis captain discussed Real Madrid's Ceballos, his outside chance of a World Cup spot, and Andrés Iniesta's imminent move to China.

Joaquín, the Real Betis captain and shareholder, spoke to Canal Sur Radio on Wednesday evening about a hypotethical return for Dani Ceballos, life under Quique Setien, and an outside chance of a place in Spain’s World Cup squad.

Analysis: How Quique Setien turned Real Betis in to European contenders.

Dani Ceballos to Betis?

“Dani is a player who is important for any team. We played together for one season and he’s at a superb level. If he comes we would welcome him with open arms because I know what he means for Betis, he’d be great for us.”

World Cup in Russia

“It [to go to the World Cup] would be the cherry on top of a great season. It’s not easy. But sometimes I think that not long ago [David] Villa and [Aritz] Aduriz were involved and that I might have a chance. I know perfectly well that it’s difficult because there are excellent players in the national team, but you always dream of going back. If we win it I’ll be the happiest man in the world.”

Real Betis challenging for the Europa League spots

“We knew that if we carried on in the second half of the season as we had been before, we would do well. But even I didn’t think the season would go so well and that at this point we’d be a step away from finishing fifth and getting in to Europe. We’ve got six wins on the bounce and in the seventh we got a draw against a strong Atlético side.”

Following Iniesta to China

“I’m not going to China, no. Not for now. Luckily I extended my contract for two more years and I’m really happy. I still feel important and although I’m no kid anymore, I can enjoy my football and the things that make me happy. I’ve got a coach who understands me perfectly. He’s given me a big role on the pitch and he understood me from the first minute.”
