ATLÉTICO MADRID

Simeone faces five-game ban for sending off against Arsenal

The sending off was for insulting the ref but he maintained contact with the bench, which comes with an additional punishment, and could get five games.

Diego Simeone is facing a potential five-game ban after being sent to the stands at the Emirates on Thursday night by referee Clement Turpin. The Atlético Madrid manager was sent off for protesting Sime Vrsaljko's 10th minute second yellow card. For now, neither will be available for the return leg at the Wanda Metropolitano but Simeone could face a much harsher ban than that of his player.

The Argentine was reported for "insulting the referee" and for maintaining contact with the bench after his sending off. He faces a three game ban for the former as UEFA state in their rules: suspension for three competition matches or a specified period for insulting any match official.

He could also face additional punishment, according to article 69, "A team manager/coach who is sent off or suspended from carrying out his function may not be in the technical area or communicate directly or indirectly with the team's players and/or technical staff during the match. In addition, a team manager/coach who is suspended from carrying out his function may not enter the dressing room or tunnel before or during the match."
