Betis want Kevin-Prince Boateng to fire European dream

The Frankfurt forward has been requested by Quique Setién, who worked with him at Las Palmas before the Ghanaian left for personal reasons.

Betis manager Quique Setién is already planning for next season and after securing deals for Takashi Inui, Pau López and Sergio Canales, the Europa League-bound tactician is eyeing a move for his former striker Kevin-Prince Boateng.

The Ghanaian left Las Palmas just before the start of the season for personal reasons but enjoyed a good relationship with Setién while on loan in the Canaries and the 31-year-old has not ruled out a reunion with Setién at the Villamarín. Under Setién at Las Palmas, Boateng enjoyed a decent 2016-17, scoring 10 Liga goals in 29 appearances. “I’m concentrating on the end of the season and not on whether I stay here or not next season,” the Frankfurt striker said.

Boateng signed for the Bundesliga club last summer to be closer to his family, who are settled in Italy, after explaining that was the reason he would leave Las Palmas: “I miss my family. I didn’t feel it as strongly before but now I do. Being away from my son is difficult and family has to come first,” he said at the time.

But the principle reason that he signed for Frankfurt was the input of his former teammate at Hertha Berlin, Nico Kovac, who is set to leave the Bundesliga club at the end of the season to take over at Bayern Munich. That may lead Boateng to consider his options and joining up again with Setién will be an attractive proposition for the striker.

Boateng has been an integral part of Frankfurt’s campaign this season, which has seen the The Eagles into seventh place in the league table and the final of the DFB-Pokal – where they will play Bayern.
