McManaman: People would be singing from the rooftops if Pep did what Zidane has done
McManaman played with Zinedine Zidane during his time at Real Madrid and says the French manager doesn't give himself enough credit for what he has done.
Steve McManaman, former Liverpool (1989-1999) and Real Madrid (1999-2003) took a look at the Champions League final match-up in The Telegraph on Thursday. The former winger played with Zidane as part of the original Galatico side and says his former teammate doesn't give himself enough credit.
“The players were not happy when he was appointed," McManaman says as he echoes Sergio Ramos' point that the dressing room was divided and the club was a little lost.
"He has gone on to win two Champions Leagues. If Pep Guardiola had done this people would be singing from rooftops. He does not pat himself on the back enough. He is similar as a manager as a player. He is not outspoken. He gives nothing away. Not extravagant in interviews, but always graceful.
