WORLD CUP 2018
Egyptian media explain reason behind Salah's latest row with Egyptian FA
The player attended a gala dinner on Friday night with the Egyptian team hosted by the leader of the Republic of Chechnya.
Speculation had grown over the weekend that Mohamed Salah would leave the World Cup prematurely because of a disagreement with the Egyptian Football Federation. But in the end, it turns out that the Liverpool striker will play in his country’s final game against Saudi Arabia this evening.
The Egyptian team have been based in the Chechnyan capital, Grozny for the duration of the World Cup. And according to Egyptian media Globoesporte, Salah was upset following a meeting between the Egyptian team and the leader of the Republic of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadirov, who posted a photograph of himself and the Egyptian star on social media, and named the player as an honorary citizen of the Republic of Chechnya.
Salah was pictured smiling together with Kadirov at a gala dinner on Friday night, during which he received a badge and a copy of the decree of his citizenship. The player was reportedly bothered by that fact that Kadirov used his image without his consent and for political means.
This is the second time Salah has had a disagreement with the Egyptian Federation over the unauthorized use of his image. In April the player was angered by the use of his image on the national team plane, which appeared alongside the logo of the official team sponsor WE. Salah has a sponsorship deal with a rival telecommunications firm, Vodafone.
