Serie A challenges Premier League in summer spending
Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Serie A has been instrumental in the Italian league outspending the other major Euro leagues this summer.
Serie A champions Juventus are currently the biggest spenders in the European football transfer market with the 117 million euro purchase of Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid still the highest profile move of the 2018/19 summer window.
The striker from Madeira isn't the only high profile acquisition made by "The Old Lady of Italian football" with the Turin side also snapping up Cancelo (40,4M euro) and Douglas Costa for 40 million. The current summer spend by Juve at present is of 212.9 million euro with the Italian side leading the spend ranking with Liverpool (€182.2) and AS Roma (133.4 million) also on the podium. The "Giallorossi" have also acquired the signatures of Pastore (25) and Justin Kluivert (17).
Premier League
As is the tradition, it's the English domestic league that once again has seen the highest sums of money being exchanged to secure players with a current outlay of 935.8 million euro (at the time of writing) with Liverpool, West Ham United and Manchester United leading the way in big spending sides. The Premier League this season closes early with the window closing on August 9 following an agreement by member sides to close the window on the eve of the new season.
