Atlético Madrid have officially announced that Celta Vigo’s Jonny Castro has signed a six-year contract with the club, which will keep him there until 2024. But his first year will be spent in England on loan with Wolverhampton.

Although neither Atlético nor Celta has publically stated the price of the transfer, it is estimated that the deal will be worth between 7 and 11 million euros for the Galician club.

As Atlético have themselves communicated, Jonny can play as left or right back, and this was a key factor in the club’s decision to sign him.

Wolves set for Premier League with big summer signings

After gaining promotion, Wolverhampton are preparing for life in the Premier League, with agent Jorge Mendes acting as an adviser to the club and to its owner, the Chinese conglomerate Fosun.

Mendes was no doubt instrumental to the club’s two big summer signings, Portuguese internationals, João Moutinho and Rui Patricio. Dioga Jota, who had been on loan from Atlético, has also signed on a permanent basis for a fee of 14 million euros. With Jonny now also on board, Wolves fans will be hoping for a successful return to the Premier League next season.
