Last week, Julen Lopetegui sent an affectionate wink in Benzema’s direction, and, in return, the Frenchman has promised to improve on his numbers from last season, in which he scored just 12 goals in 47 games. The striker has given an interview to the club’s official website, and spoke about Lopetegui, discussed his objectives for next season and took stock of his nine years at the Bernabeu.

Objectives: “We must keep winning titles because here the objective is always winning them together. On a personal level, I want to do better than last year and I have to keep working to make more history at this club.”

Preseason: “We’re doing a lot of very good work this preseason. We know that the work is demanding, but it will be good for the rest of the season.”

Lopetegui: “We know that he’s a coach that likes to have the ball; he likes possession football. He also emphasizes on working on when we lose the ball, putting on pressure after the ball is lost.”

Titles: “I never imagined what I would achieve, but I signed for this club to win titles, to succeed and to do many things. I knew I would have difficult years, but I don’t mind because it is the best club in the world. I'm very happy.”
