Pep tells Mendy to lay off social media, Mendy replies on Twitter
Despite playing a part in both of Manchester City's goals against Arsenal, Guardiola singled out the France defender for a ticking off after the game.
Following Manchester City’s opening day 2-0 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, Pep Guardiola was generally satisfied with his side’s performance but said there are some things still to improve upon and issued a few words of warning for France defender Benjamin Mendy.
Guardiola: "Mendy is Mendy"
Despite Mendy assisting both goals during the game, Guardiola said in his post-match press conference: “Mendy is Mendy. Sometimes we want to kill him and sometimes you think ‘wow what a player we have.’ He has a lot of things to improve and hopefully we can convince him to forget a little bit the social media.”
Mendy, having seen the comments posted on City’s official account, then replied, via social media, saying that he needed to find his “feet and rhythm” again after a long summer and noting that he has things to improve.
He then posted another message that read simply: “Oops," and followed that up with a promise to obey his manager's advice.
