Ibrahimovic’s clothes brand A-Z closes in the face of major losses
The LA Galaxy star’s A-Z business venture has been cancelled with major losses after two years trying to break into the market.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has had to say goodbye to his A-Z clothing brand (Amateur to Zlatan) as it continued to rack up losses, somewhere the wrong side of 20 million euros in total, according to Norwegian publication Dagens Indusri.
Launched in 2016 the ambitious brand was intended to compete with the big names in sports clothing, but striker’s dream failed to prosper, thanks to high production costs.
The footballer was in partnership with the Norwegian Varner Group, who own a range of leading brands. They published a joint statement: “Despite solid growth in 2017 the European sportswear effort has proved too expensive”.
A-Z said about itself: “A–Z is a brand with one mission: to make sports accessible to everyone. It doesn’t matter where you start or where you end up, A-Z is about the journey.”
Alas that journey is now over.
