Real Madrid, most popular club in 2018 according to Google
Los Blancos have topped the search charts across the globe with the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal only picking up some isolated dominance.
Real Madrid is the most searched for football team on the Internet for the year 2018 to date, a study based on Google data has revealed.
Madrid: they just can't Google enough
The European Champions lead the number of searches in a total of 97 countries spanning the majority of the planet's continents (Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas). Breaking this down a little further, in Europe Los Blancos are most popular in countries such as Switzerland, Russia, Serbia and Croatia (the latter quite possibly explained by the presence of Luka Modric in the squad).
Headline maker Cristiano Ronaldo has only recently left the club (we will see how the trends develop in the coming months following that move) and the incredible continental success they have had over the last five years (four Champions League titles in that period) has allowed them to dominate in several territories that may be less expected. Other popular teams - Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal - coming in behind.
International interest in Los Blancos
Real Madrid is the most sought after club in the United States and Canada, as well as in most of South America (Colombia, Peru, Chile, Bolivia and Paraguay). In Africa, they dominate the northern part of the continent with only Arsenal and Manchester United overshadowing them in a few isolated areas, mainly in the south and east.
Asian interest in Madrid is overwhelming. Madrid occupy top spot in almost all countries in the continent and only Arsenal and Manchester United are ahead in more than one region.
