Former Real Madrid star Michel Salgado joins Egypt’s technical staff

Former Spain and Real Madrid right back Michel Salgado has been appointed as assistant coach to the Egypt national team, the country’s Football Association announced on Monday.

The Spaniard joins the also retired defender Hany Ramzy as assistants to Mexican tactician Javier Aguirre, who was appointed as Héctor Cúper’s replacement following Egypt’s disappointing performance at this year’s World Cup in Russia.

Africa Cup of Nations preparations begin

The 42-year-old Salgado is already working with the Pharaohs as the team prepares for their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at home against Niger on 9 September.

Egypt have failed to win any of their last nine games since defeating Congo 2-1 in a World Cup qualifier on 8 October, 2017.

At the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the Pharaohs made a defective start losing 1-0 to Tunisia in Rades.

Salgado played more than 250 times for Real Madrid and earned 53 international call-ups with the Spanish national side.
