Operation Brazil: Real Madrid target Pedro Guilherme

The 21-year-old Fluminense striker could be on his way to Lopetegui's squad, for a fee of 20-25 million euros, but there is competition from Sevilla, Roma and AC Milan.

Update:
Operation Brazil: Real Madrid target Pedro Guilherme

Real Madrid aim to continue with their policy of trying to attract the best young talent in the world and have another gem in their sights: Pedro Guilherme, the 21-year-old Brazilian striker currently shining for Fluminense.

Madrid keeping close eye on Pedro

Los Blancos have been keeping tabs on the youngsters performances for some time now and this season the forward has scored 12 goals in 23 games (ten goals in the Liga Brasileirao and two in the Copa Sudamericana).

Despite the player having recently renewed his contract, which takes it to 2021, the release clause of 50 million euros is unlikely to be needing paid. Sources suggest that Fluminense could accept him leaving for a figure between 20-25 million euros. Of course, as with any hot prospect, their is competition for his signature and other big clubs around Europe have already been making enquiries including Sevilla, Roma and AC Milan.

The arrival of Mariano to Julen Lopetegui's squad has done nothing to extinguished Madrid's interest in Guilherme, although the Dominican Republic's signature could certainly influence the road map. The club are discussing whether, if they are able to get the transfer completed, the player would go straight into the first team squad or be sent out on loan to gain experience in European football. An appropriate club for his development would be selected if the latter option is chosen.

Brazil debut and Vinicius comparisons

Pedro's impressive performances have also caught Brazil national team manager Tite's attention. The coach was expected to give him his debut during this early September international break, however an untimely knee injury suffered on August 26 against Cruzeiro ended that dream.

Although some commentators have likened this approach to that of Vinicius Jr, the key difference is the relative ages and maturity of the two players. Guilherme would appear to be significantly closer to making an impact in the top flight.
