In the end, just like Cristiano Ronaldo, it appears that Leo Messi won't be attending Fifa's 'The Best' gala this evening in London in which the best player of last year will be named. Messi, who is not among the candidates for the best player award, had originally accepted the invitation to attend but things have changed since last night. This morning, he informed Barcelona that he will not be able to go to London for personal reasons - without going into any specific detail. The club in turn, passed on the news to Fifa that their star player would now not be attending the event.

It means that neither of the two players who have dominated the individual awards organized by Fifa and France Football during the past 10 years, Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi will not be present tonight. Messi is one of the candidates for the Puskás award for the best goal of 2017 as well as opting for the team of the year. Representing Barcelona in London will be Director of Institutional Relations Guillermo Amor and club Director Javier Bordas.
