10 hospitalised after barrier collapse at Eibar's Ipurua ground

Sevilla FC announced 14 supporters were injured in the accident on Saturday in the away stand, with staff remaining at hospital with those fans affected overnight.

The barriers in the away stand at Eibar’s Ipurua ground collapsed on Saturday during a LaLiga match fixture against Sevilla, leaving 14 travelling fans injured and 10 in hospital overnight, the Andalusian club confirmed.

Sevilla chairman José Castro and sporting director Joaquín Caparrós visited the hospitalised fans at the nearby Mendaro Hospital and the club confirmed thay staff had remained overnight with those fans injured in the incident.

Sevilla midfielder Ever Banega had just converted a penalty to make it 2-0 to the visitors when the railings of the stand behind the goal, where the Sevilla fans were celebrating, collapsed with several fans falling onto the pitch.

The match was stopped for six minutes to allow for medical attention to be provided. In total 14 fans were injured, however Eibar confirmed that none of those that required treatment in hospital had suffered serious injuries. 

None of the Sevilla players were affected by the incident, despite having been right by the barriers, celebrating the goal, when the incident occurred.
