Real Madrid's best passer sits on the bench

Since his arrival, Lucas Vazquez has been the most creative passer when it comes to assist with 40 in just under 7,000 minutes on the field.

Real Madrid seem to be lacking something up front in their most recent games before the international break. The creation of chances is letting them down and one of the possible solutions might be sitting on the bench. Lucas Vazquez is the player with the most assists since 2015 and he has done that in jut 6,935 minutes.

Since his arrival in the first team from Espanyol, Lucas has grasped his role and function within the team dynamic. With work and humility, he has appeared on some of the most iconic team photos in the club's history. The one thing you could count on under Zidane was Lucas' growing importance. Year after year, as the titles added up, Lucas' starts did too. He has 13 in his first year, 20 in the second and 27 in Zidane's third year in charge.

Vazquez beating Kroos with 40 assists

During that time, he logged 40 assists. Kroos, an undisputed starter, is close with 39 but the Spaniard did it in almost half the minutes. Vazquez achieved his tally with a pass for a goal every 173 minutes and Kroos could only manage an assist every 318. The only person to top him in this stat is James, who had 22 assists in 3,773, which is a pass for a goal ever 171 minutes.

However, this season it seems that Julen Lopetegui doesn't rely on Vazquez the same way Zidane did. He has played just 197 minutes and, most significantly, only has one start to his name, which came in a loss to Spartak in the Champions League.
