Real Madrid would need to reach an agreement with the Royal Belgian Football Association (KBVB) if they are serious about bringing Belgium coach Roberto Martínez in as first team coach. Martínez is under contract with the Red Devils until 2020.

Contract details are a private matter

That was indicated to EFE this morning by a KBVB spokesman, who refused to elaborate on any of the clauses in Martínez's current contract with Belgium which could free him from his duties. The 45-year-old Spanish coach took Belgium to a third-placed finish at 2018 World Cup Russia, the country's best finish in any major tournament.

"We cannot make any comments on the contracts which the Belgian FA has in place with its employees which we feel is a private matter. If any club is interested in hiring Mr. Martínez, first they need to reach an agreement with the Royal Belgian Football Association", spokesman Stefan Van Loock told EFE.

Experience in the UK

Martínez, whose managerial career took him to Everton, Wigan and Swansea City in the Premier League, is one of the names being mentioned as the possible sucessor to Julen Lopetegui in the Real Madrid coaching post, which is currently being filled on a temporary basis by Real Madrid Castilla coach, Santiago Solari.
